1. Pressure range

It’s best to choose an option that safely incorporates the entire range with some cushion on each end to prevent malfunction.

2. Pressure Connection

The pressure connection, or process connection, links the sensor with the pressure medium. Most pressure connections come with a standard thread, which can be installed at the point where pressure is supposed to be measured.

3. Flush vs. Internal Diaphragms

Another essential consideration is whether you want a non-clogging, flush diaphragm, or an internal diaphragm.

The latter is characterized by a direct connection between the pressure medium and the sensor diaphragm. On the other hand, a flush diaphragm allows pressure ports to be sealed using an added stainless-steel diaphragm. In this case, the transmission fluid transmits pressure to the internal sensor diaphragm through the external diaphragm.

4. Threads and Seals

Choosing the right thread and seal combination will ensure efficient installation and sealing of the pressure gauge and the measurement location.

Depending on the sealing technique, the threads used can vary from self-sealing tapered threads or threads that require additional support with a gasket, o-ring, or seal. The most common approach is to seal the front of the thread using a metal ring.

5. Electrical Connection

Electrical connections for pressure gauges also come in a variety of options, including an integral cable or a standard plug-in connector. Choosing the right electrical connection is essential because it affects the ambient temperature range, aggressive media, IP (Ingress Protection) rating of the instrument, and environmental influences.
