Trash pumps are used to help clean out water bodies that have added debris, dirt, or trash inside of them. Regular water pumps are unable to work with water that has solid items mixed into it and can get clogged.
However, you still need to use the right type of trash pump for the right job. Today we look at some of the different types of trash pumps you can buy.
Traditional Trash Pumps
Starting off with the standard option available, traditional trash pumps are built to withstand a certain level of debris and solids coming through in the water that it’s trying to keep clean. It can take care of pebbles, twigs, leaves, and the like without much problem.
However, these traditional trash pumps don’t grind up the debris and solids but rather keeps them intact and pumps them out and to the side. The main benefit of this one is that it’s easy to clean out if it ever gets clogged up, and it’s generally simple to use.
Diaphragm Pumps
Diaphragm pumps work differently than most other trash pumps. As the name suggests, it has a diaphragmthatpumps itself to create a vacuumused to pull water and debris in and out. Every time the diaphragm goes up, the pump will suck water in through a sudden creation of a vacuum and then pump it back out once the diaphragm moves back down.
These pumps are ideal for cleaning out liquids that are similar to sludge. One common use for it would be to drain a pond. It’s ideal for handling the mud and dirt accumulated at the bottom, along with the water and any aquatic plant life that’s in there.
Semi-Trash Pump
Semi trash pumps are quite similar to the traditional pumps in most ways except that theycan’t handle as much debris as the standard model. The pump is unable to let larger items pass through it, and so this trash pump is ideally used for smaller bodies of water that are slightly sandy or slightly muddy.
The maximum-sized object that can pass through this pump has to be around half an inch wide, so you’ll want to make sure there is a strainer attached to the hose when you begin pumping.
Regardless of which trash pump you do choose, you should also know that they require spare parts, like pump stands, for its maintenance.
