Oil drilling and extraction involve complex processes and machinery for operations. Process instruments enable rig operators to closely monitor reading to keep their equipment and crew safe. Failure to detect variances can lead to unfortunate events like the BP oil crisis. Here’re essential drilling instruments that your company must have to prevent any accidents.

Weight Indicator Systems

Weight indicators measure the weight of the slick line string or tubing string in the wellbore. The hydraulic gauge is attached to the drill string, where the tension on the drill string is converted by the deadline diaphragm into mechanical energy. The gauge displays the reading from the hydraulic gauge. However, the tensions include other forces such as wire rope tensions, traveling blocks and the cable. Weight indicator systems enable drillers to keep tabs on the weight on the drill bit. The driller can set the second indicator to zero while the drill string hangs free, allowing to get actual readings of the weight on the drill bit. Factors like fluid density and wellhead pressure can alter the readings.

Pressure Gauges

Pumps are extensively used in mud and oil extraction from the downhole. During the extraction process, underground pressure releases into the air. A pressure gauge allows the crew to monitor the pressure readings and ensure that they’re stable; otherwise, it can cause explosions.  The two main pressure gauges are mud pressure gauges and standpipe pressure gauges. As the name suggests, mud pressure gauges are used to monitor pressure from mud and other viscous fluids. Standpipe pressure gauges are mounted to be seen from far distances. Pressure pumps allow drillers to make corrections with fluid circulations to prevent accidents.

Torque Gauges And Systems

Torque gauges provide accurate torque measurements of various twisting and turning components like turbine blades during a torsion test. The torque sensor converts the torque into an electrical signal. They help prevent any under or over-turning pipe and can be used on different pipe weights and sizes. Our tong gauges and systems can attach to power tongs and manual tongs so that you can get the right torque for the operation.
